The ACEM Competent IOW (ACIOW) Certificate Ceremony was held on October 19, 2024, at the ACEM Office, starting at 10:30 a.m. This significant event marked a milestone for both the recipient and the organization, as Mr. Lai Weng Sang was honoured as the first Inspector of Works (IOW) to achieve the ACIOW certification. The ceremony was attended by ACEM Council members, Ir. Anuar b Mohd Aris, Ir. K. Sundraraj, Datuk Ir. Chin Shu Ying, Ir. Foo Kam Fai, Ir. Ahmad Rashidi b Zainudin, and Ir. Shah Izzni Talif b Mohd Adnan.
ACEM Competent IOW (ACIOW) is awarded after an assessment to determine whether the IOW has undergone training and acquired experience to satisfactorily meet the competence set by ACEM. ACEM Competent IOWs shall be entitled to use the suffix, ACIOW, after their names for recognition. The awarding of the title ACIOW is intended to be recognized as experienced and competent IOW to gain employment opportunities with ACEM member firms for major construction projects. Details of ACIOW shall be published on the ACEM website for ease of reference for ACEM member firms.
ACEM President Ir. Chong Chew Fan presented the certificate of achievement to Mr. Lai. This recognition not only highlights Mr. Lai’s personal accomplishment but also underscores ACEM’s commitment to fostering professional development and excellence in the construction industry.
