BEM Refresher Course on Pre-Approved CPD Assessment

The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day “Refresher Course on Pre-Approved CPD Assessment” for its appointed Certified Bodies (CBs) on 12 and 13 February 2026. The session brought together representatives from the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM), the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), and the Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology (MySET) to standardize and enhance the evaluation process for professional development activities.

Dato’ Ir. Dr. Che Hassandi Abdullah, Chairman of the BEM CPD Working Group, spearheaded the sessions by presenting updates on BEM Circular 002. His presentations focused on:

  • CPD Requirements: Clarifying the mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) criteria for Professional Engineers with Practising Certificates (PEPC), Professional Engineers (PE), and Inspectors-of-Works (IOW).
  • Pre-Approved Activities: Outlining the requirements for activities to qualify for pre-approved CPD status, ensuring high-quality education for registered professionals.

Day 1 concluded with a formal assessment of the participants’ understanding through a specialized quiz.

Prof. Mohd Rasid Osman, a member of the BEM Working Group on CPD led Day 2 with a presentation on “CPD Form Assessment Discussion with Case Studies and Practical Exercises”. His session provided a forum for CB representatives to navigate different evaluation scenarios. During the interactive segment, CB representatives were given opportunity to present their selected pre-approved CPD activities for group peer review, fostering a collaborative environment to align assessment methodologies.

Representing ACEM for the course were Ir. Nabila binti Manan and Encik Muhammad Noor Farhan bin Noor Azam, both members of the ACEM Working Group on Pre-Approved CPD Assessment.

This refresher course underscores BEM’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Continuing Professional Development of the engineering profession in Malaysia by equipping Certified Bodies with the latest assessment tools and regulatory knowledge.
