ACEM organised the Induction Course for New M&E Engineers from 8 to 10 September 2026 at Hotel Armada, Petaling Jaya. The three-day course welcomed 46 participants and was designed to introduce new Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineers to professional consulting engineering practice.
The course was tailored for M&E engineers without formal training in consulting practice, as well as engineers in consulting firms with up to two years of experience, providing a strong foundation for further specialised training.
Over three days, participants were introduced to key areas of M&E consulting engineering, including Professional Practice, covering laws, regulations, professional conduct and the route to Professional Engineer registration; Electrical HV & LV Installations, covering supply planning, design considerations, protection schemes, testing and earthing systems; and ACMV, covering HVAC fundamentals, cooling load estimation, energy efficiency and green building standards.
Participants were also introduced to Lifts and Escalators, including system selection, specifications, installation and safety; Hydraulic Services, covering water systems, piping and sanitary plumbing design; Fire Safety Systems, covering passive and active protection, detection, alarm and smoke control; and ELV Systems, covering telecommunications, CCTV, security and building automation.
Through the course, participants gained a broader understanding of the roles and responsibilities of consulting engineers, foundational M&E design knowledge across multiple disciplines, and familiarity with relevant laws, standards and statutory requirements — equipping them for further professional development.
The programme was delivered by experienced industry practitioners, namely Ir. Chong Chew Fan of Greatians Consulting Sdn Bhd, Ir. Lam Kim Seong of Prudenergy Consulting Sdn Bhd, Ir. Ng Joo Yoong of Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd, Ir. Ng Yong Kong of NYKK Engineering Group Sdn Bhd, Ir. Walter Sim Kian Joo of LYS Consult Sdn Bhd, Ir. Soon See Leak of SoonSL Enterprise, and Ir.
