On 25 November 2024, a webinar titled “Road Safety Audit – A Professional Practice in Malaysia” was conducted from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon via Zoom Webinar, attracting 72 participants. The session began with an overview of accident statistics on Malaysian roads, highlighting the pressing need for effective safety measures. The speaker introduced the Safe System Approach, a comprehensive strategy adopted by road authorities in several countries aimed at reducing road traffic accidents.
Participants were provided with insights into the Road Safety Audit (RSA) processes currently practiced in Malaysia, emphasizing their importance in enhancing road safety standards. Additionally, the webinar addressed the pathway to becoming a Professional Engineer in Road Safety Auditing (BEM PEPC), outlining the necessary qualifications and experience required for certification.
The session was led by Ir. Anuar Mohd Aris, a registered Professional Engineer with a Practicing Certificate from the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a registered ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE). With over 30 years of experience in the design and construction supervision of highways and bridges, Ir. Anuar is also the Deputy President of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) and has served on various technical committees within BEM, ACEM, CIDB, and JKR for the past 15 years. As a BEM Certified Road Safety Auditor since 2005, Ir. Anuar’s expertise provided valuable insights to attendees, fostering a deeper understanding of the critical role of road safety audits in Malaysia.
