Construction Convention 2023: Safe and Sustainable Consultancy Practices

The Council of Construction Consultants (CCC) made history on September 19, 2023, by organizing its first-ever CCC Construction Convention. This groundbreaking event, titled “Safe and Sustainable Consultancy Practices,” brought together nearly 300 participants through an innovative online platform. Jointly organized by The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia, the Association of Consulting Architects Malaysia, and the Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, the convention was exclusively designed for professionals in the fields of engineering, architecture, quantity surveying, and technology.

The convention commenced with a forum session addressing the critical issues affecting professional consultancy businesses. The session featured a panel of distinguished experts in the field, including Ir. Sharifah Azlina binti Raja Kamal Pasmah, ACEM Honorary Secretary, as the moderator. The panelists included Ir. Chong Chew Fan, ACEM President; Ar. Jafri Merican, ACAM President; and Sr. Kamarudin Sulaiman, ACQSM President. This discussion provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities within the consultancy sector.

The CCC Construction Convention 2023 featured a diverse range of speakers across three specialized halls, catering to engineers, architects, and quantity surveyors. In Hall 1, engineers gathered to listen to a distinguished panel of speakers including Ir. Ong Ching Loon, Managing Director of Cofreth (M) Sdn Bhd; Ir. Anuar bin Mohd Aris, ACEM Deputy President; Datuk Ir. Mohd Adnan bin Mohd Nor, ACEM Past President; Ir. K. Sundraraj, ACEM Immediate Past President; and Ir. Romesh Srinivasan, Managing Director of K.L. Consult Associates Sdn Bhd. Hall 2, dedicated to architects, hosted a lineup of experts, with speakers including Ms. Heather Yee Jing Wah, Assistant Director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre; Ar. Jafri Merican, ACAM President; Ar. Ahmad Farik bin Abd Ghaffar, Principal of Farik Ghaffar Architect; Ar. Nasharuddin Abd Majid, Principal of Arkitek Punca Cipta; and Ar. Jasmeet Sidhu, ACAM Past President.

In Hall 3, quantity surveyors were presented with valuable insights from En. Muhammad Yusuf bin Khalid, a Construction Data Specialist at BCISM Sdn. Bhd.; Sr. Kamarudin bin Sulaiman, ACQSM President; Sr. Chong Kok Vui, an ACQSM Committee member; Sr. Yazit Yeop Arbi, ACQSM Secretary; and En. Mohd Dzulkifli bin Abdul Hamid, Senior Partner at Alpha Training & Consultancy Services. These sessions allowed professionals from different sectors within the construction industry to gain knowledge and expertise from some of the most respected figures in their respective fields, contributing to the advancement of safe and sustainable consultancy practices in the construction industry.

The convention concluded at 6.30 pm, leaving participants with a wealth of knowledge, new connections, and a broader perspective on the safe and sustainable consultancy practices that are essential in the ever-evolving world of construction and consulting. The CCC Construction Convention 2023 demonstrated the resilience of these industries in adapting to virtual platforms for continuous learning and collaboration.
