On 9 May 2026, ACEM Sabah Branch organised a Pre-AGM Talk titled “Rockfall & Debris Flow Barrier” at Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, featuring Ir. Mohd Rizal bin Ahmad and Mr. Muhammad Asyraf Rosli as speakers. The presentation covered the fundamental design principles of debris flow barriers, including volume- and flow-based design approaches, debris impact loading mechanisms, system behaviour, key components such as posts, wire mesh/ring nets, anchors, and energy dissipators, as well as relevant design guidelines.

The session also provided practical insights into system selection, installation challenges, and maintenance considerations, with the aim of equipping engineers with a practical understanding of the design, application, and performance of debris flow protection systems within Malaysia’s geotechnical and climatic environment.
