The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM), in collaboration with FIDIC Asia Pacific, organised a free webinar titled Design of Data Centers: Data Centers of the Future & Greening Data Centers in Malaysia on 8 June 2026 via Zoom. The webinar attracted a total of 302 participants and was moderated by Ir. Anuar Mohd Aris.
The webinar featured Ir. Jayvarmaa Rajaram and Ir. Chong Chew Fan, who shared their insights on the development of data centers, emerging technologies, and sustainability challenges in Malaysia.
Topic 1: Data Centers of the Future: Roadmap & Key Technologies
The session discussed the evolution of data centers from traditional to modern facilities, including the increasing demand for higher rack power and density, as well as the move towards modular and scalable designs. The discussion also covered the impact of AI on power and cooling requirements, cooling challenges, sustainability considerations, and regulatory concerns.
Topic 2: Greening Data Centers in Malaysia: Policy, Power, Water and Infrastructure Challenges for Consulting Engineers
The session highlighted key factors influencing data center development in Malaysia, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap, MIDA’s sustainable data center guidelines, DESAC incentives, and renewable energy initiatives. The discussion also covered challenges related to power supply, water management, carbon reduction and ESG requirements, as well as the role of consulting engineers in supporting sustainable data center projects.
